Case study: How RWE makes its electricity generation more climate friendly

As one of the leading energy utilities in Europe, supplying over 16.4 million customers with electricity, RWE strives to make its electricity generation more climate friendly, reducing the CO2 emissions from its power plants and increasing electricity generation from renewable sources, in line with German and European climate goals.

Abstract

Climate protection, not least through the low-carbon generation of electricity, is a top priority for both RWE and its stakeholders and a key challenge and area for action for RWE. In order to make its electricity generation more

climate friendly RWE took action to:
• monitor and reduce CO2 emissions
• renew power plants
• transfer lignite-fired power station units to security standby
• increase electricity generation from renewable sources
