A green city, fighting air pollution, is currently under construction in China. Tweet This!

The Liuzhou Forest City, designed by Stefano Boeri Architetti, will be the very first Chinese Forest City, with hotels, offices, houses, hospitals, schools, completely covered by trees and plants.

Once finished, Liuzhou Forest City:

will host 30,000 people, 40,000 trees and around 1 million plants of more than 100 species

will be energy self-sufficient, using geothermal energy for interior air-conditioning and solar panels over roofs to collect renewable energy

will absorb approximately 10,000 tons of CO2 and 57 tons of pollutants every year

will produce around 900 tons of oxygen

The Liuzhou Forest City is to be built in the north of Liuzhou, in the southern part of China, in an area covering 175 hectares along the Liujiang river and will be connected to Liuzhou by means of a fast rail line, used by electric cars.

Plants diffused not only in parks or gardens but also over building facades will enable Liuzhou Forest City to:

improve air quality and reduce average air temperature

create noise barriers

increase biodiversity, creating a habitat for birds, insects and small animals of the Liuzhou territory

For the first time in China and worldwide, a ground-breaking urban establishment will simultaneously address the challenges of achieving energy self-sufficiency, increasing biodiversity and reducing urban air pollution.
