This case study is based on the 2020 Global Citizenship Report by FedEx, prepared in accordance with the GRI Standards, that can be found at this link. Through all case studies we aim to demonstrate what CSR/ ESG/ sustainability reporting done responsibly means. Essentially, it means: a) identifying a company’s most important impacts on the environment, economy and society, and b) measuring, managing and changing.

Abstract

As FedEx grows its business through acquisitions, it also works to embed sustainability principles among its suppliers through clearly articulated expectations, awareness raising, contract language, and evaluations. In order to promote sustainability among its suppliers FedEx took action to:

use best practices and tools to improve supply chain sustainability

promote sustainable purchasing

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2020 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as economic impact and access, ethics, integrity, bribery, and corruption, GHG emissions associated with the transportation fleet, workplace safety and team member security. Among these, promoting sustainability among its suppliers stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

Stakeholder engagement in accordance with the GRI Standards

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) defines the Principle of Stakeholder Inclusiveness when identifying material issues (or a company’s most important impacts) as follows:

“The reporting organization shall identify its stakeholders, and explain how it has responded to their reasonable expectations and interests.”

Stakeholders must be consulted in the process of identifying a company’s most important impacts and their reasonable expectations and interests must be taken into account. This is an important cornerstone for CSR / sustainability reporting done responsibly.

Key stakeholder groups FedEx engages with:

Stakeholder Group

Supply chain workers

Non-governmental organisations

Regulators

Suppliers

How stakeholder engagement was made to identify material issues

To identify and prioritise material topics FedEx conducted phone interviews with representatives from academia, customers, industry associations, media, NGOs, and suppliers, along with an online survey.

What actions were taken by FedEx to promote sustainability among its suppliers?

In its 2020 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for promoting sustainability among its suppliers:

Using best practices and tools to improve supply chain sustainability

FedEx’s SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) team leads efforts to improve sustainability in FedEx’s supply chain through a variety of best practices and tools, including the following:

Sustainability-related questionnaires are included in FedEx’s requests for qualifications and proposals (RFx) in core categories. A database tracks adherence and supports a rigorous, consistent process.

Sustainability-related contract language is included in 99.6% of FedEx’s key supplier contracts as of FY19. This language addresses supplier performance in environmental, social, labour, and human rights areas, including child and forced labour and is included in all new or amended supplier agreements.

During FY19, sustainability criteria were included in 100% of scorecards used to evaluate suppliers.

Training, awareness raising, and a focus on continuous improvement among SRM team members help to institutionalise sustainable supply chain practices.

Mechanisms are in place to ensure sustainable products are used as intended to deliver the expected sustainability benefits. The SRM team provides FedEx operating companies with a convenient system to submit any sourcing concerns, such as receiving an incorrect item or a product that cannot be used as planned.

Promoting sustainable purchasing

In FY19, FedEx continued its involvement in the SPLC (Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council), of which it is a founding member. FedEx is actively involved in the Strategic Advisory Committee and in promoting the use of SPLC guidance by other companies. FedEx’s best-practice sourcing criteria and metrics for sustainability are informed by SPLC and customised for its business. Leveraging external platforms for a more sustainable supply chain extends to FedEx Express International as well, where sourcing aligns with ISO 20400 guidance for sustainable procurement. The programme includes supplier risk screening to identify categories of goods and regions known to present inherent risks, along with training and guidelines for sustainable procurement. Future plans for FedEx’s international operations include providing buyers with a standardised set of RFx questions for sustainable procurement and information to support specialised purchases, such as electric vehicles.

Which GRI Standards and corresponding Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have been addressed?

The GRI Standards addressed in this case are:

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2020 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as economic impact and access, ethics, integrity, bribery, and corruption, GHG emissions associated with transportation fleet, social impact of FedEx supply chains. Among these, promoting employee health and wellness stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

Stakeholder engagement in accordance with the GRI Standards

What actions were taken by FedEx to promote employee health and wellness?

In its 2020 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for promoting employee health and wellness:

Offering high-quality, affordable benefits

FedEx’s total benefits package for team members includes competitive and, in many cases, innovative health benefits for eligible full-time and part-time team members and their dependents. In the U.S., where FedEx has approximately 220,000 participating team members, it covers more than 70% of total eligible health and disability costs for part- and full-time employees at the plan level. This set of services includes medical, behavioural, dental, vision, and pharmacy coverage with flexible options for each. According to the IBM Watson Health database, the out-of-pocket costs for FedEx team members are lower than at most other companies. In addition, participating part-time and full-time team members are eligible for health reimbursement accounts, employee assistance counselling, free generic prescription coverage, company-paid life insurance, and many other benefits.

Providing access to healthcare

FedEx’s team members are increasingly using telehealth tools to connect with medical professionals for personalised healthcare, remotely from their mobile devices or computers. From FY18 to FY19, team members’ use of telehealth jumped 360% and, in 2020, telehealth access became free of charge. Along with FedEx’s 24-hour nurse line, near-site healthcare facilities – such as the ones close to FedEx Express headquarters, Memphis hub, and in Irving, Texas – assistance with second opinions, integrated personal health teams, a medical decision support group, and tiered access networks, team members have a variety of flexible options for their healthcare, whether they live in rural areas or large cities. Team members can also use a digital navigation tool to find doctors, see account balances, and get other healthcare information on their mobile devices. FedEx is among an estimated 40% of large employers that offer this convenience.

Promoting work-life balance

In addition to family-friendly benefits such as paid maternity and paternity leave and financial assistance with adoptions, FedEx offers a Work-Life Balance Programme to all U.S. team members. Members can access specialists and online resources for advice and support on common life events and challenges, such as parenting, childcare, and financial matters. In 2019, a total of 146,847 team members – 45% of eligible U.S.-based team members – participated in work-life balance programmes.

Implementing an employee assistance programme

PeopleHelp offers confidential counselling services to employees, eligible dependents, and all household members, regardless of if they are participating plan members, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Services provided include unlimited telephone consultations with a licensed clinician to explore treatment options, identify resources, and develop action plans. In addition to consultations, educational offerings such as webcasts on various topics, online personal health programmes, and wellness seminars are available.

Applying wellness programmes

Team member wellness programmes, including healthy weight management and tobacco cessation programmes, nutritionist support, stress management classes, and other resources, reflect FedEx’s holistic approach to supporting well-being. Other wellness offerings at some operating companies include free on-site flu shots, on-site mammograms, and fitness challenges. Team members can also access LifeCare for guidance navigating both big and small events, such as finding childcare, handling the death of a parent, or buying a car. Other available resources to help reduce life’s stressors include legal assistance, identity theft protection, and home and auto insurance.

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2019 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as data security and privacy, business preparedness, resiliency and disaster response, aircraft and surface vehicle fleet energy usage and associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, driver and workplace safety. Among these, promoting corporate integrity and compliance stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

Customers

Team members

Communities

Shareowners

Suppliers

How stakeholder engagement was made to identify material issues

To identify and prioritise material topics FedEx engaged with its stakeholders through phone interviews, roundtable meetings and online surveys.

What actions were taken by FedEx to promote corporate integrity and compliance?

In its 2019 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for promoting corporate integrity and compliance:

Implementing a Code of Business Conduct and Ethics

FedEx’s Code of Business Conduct and Ethics is the foundation of its corporate integrity and compliance programme, and sets a high standard for team member conduct worldwide. New hires are trained on the Code’s provisions which cover, among others, workplace health, safety and environment; human rights; money laundering prevention; equal opportunity and anti-harassment; conflicts of interest; improper payments, gifts and entertainment. The code is being updated in 2019, to make sure it remains accessible and relevant to FedEx’s global team members.

Providing best practices, tools and guidance

Globally, the FedEx Corporate Integrity and Compliance department serves as a central resource to further embed the FedEx commitment to integrity, in everything FedEx does. The department, led by FedEx’s Global Chief Compliance and Governance Officer, provides best practices, tools and guidance, along with communications and training. FedEx encourages employees to report any legal or ethical violations to management, Legal, HR or the 24-hour FedEx Alert Line. In FY18, FedEx added translations to the Alert Line portal, and rolled out translated Alert Line posters around the globe.

Fighting corruption

FedEx is committed to complying with all anti-corruption laws, and prohibits bribes of any type. FedEx’s Global Anti-Corruption Policy and related Anti-Corruption Compliance Procedures provide detailed guidance to team members. Training at the time of onboarding and again within three years, is required for team members in relevant roles. This includes management in international operations and team members and suppliers who interact with government officials on behalf of FedEx, such as customs and border personnel. FedEx’s third-party oversight programme includes due diligence, annual certifications of compliance, training and other practices to mitigate risks.

Providing compliance training

Code of Conduct, anti-corruption, antitrust, conflicts of interest and other compliance training are all key components of FedEx’s corporate integrity and compliance programme. During FY18, training efforts focused on investigation and fraud reporting, to make sure designated team members have the knowledge and resources to investigate potential fraud using standard rules of practice. Another key focus is making sure FedEx’s compliance programme and expectations are embedded into the company’s communications, training and systems.

Combating human trafficking

FedEx shares the zero-tolerance policies adopted by the U.S. and other governments to combat slavery or the trafficking of persons for any purpose. Accordingly, FedEx prohibits trafficking-related activities and expects the same of its suppliers and contractors. Additionally, FedEx Freight has joined Truckers Against Trafficking, an organisation that trains drivers to identify potential signs of human trafficking.

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2018 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as ethics, bribery and corruption, data security and privacy, driver and workplace safety, business preparedness, resiliency and disaster response. Among these, increasing facilities efficiency stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

In its 2018 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for increasing facilities efficiency:

Improving energy efficiency

As in previous years, lighting retrofits are a priority for FedEx and, in FY17, it upgraded an additional 28 facilities. Collectively, all facilities upgraded helped FedEx save 220,390,449 kWh of electricity and avoid, in FY17, 164,018 metric tons of CO2e emissions. Since 2007, lighting retrofits at 1,085 facilities have saved more than 1 billion kWh of electricity. In FY17, FedEx Office also began piloting an energy management system that allows for more efficient climate control and monitors the health of office equipment, with the aim of ultimately reducing energy and repair costs.

Certifying facilities

Certifying facilities to external standards is one way for FedEx to take a more comprehensive look at its performance, across a number of environmental criteria. During FY17, FedEx Express completed two more LEED-certified facilities in the U.S., bringing the total number to 14 and covering an area of 218,698 square meters. FedEx Express also operates three LEED-certified facilities outside the U.S., which include the FedEx International Centre (formerly TNT Centre) in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands. FedEx Ground has six LEED-certified facilities in the U.S., and the FedEx Office Headquarters in Plano, Texas is also LEED-certified. During FY17 FedEx Freight began work on its first LEED facility, expected to open in Sheboygan, Wisconsin in FY19. The number of FedEx Express facilities certified to the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard grew to 649 in almost 50 countries in FY17, primarily as a result of the acquisition of TNT. In addition, one FedEx Supply Chain facility in the U.S. is ISO 14001-certified.

Implementing sustainability programmes

The FedEx Ground sustainability champion programme, designed to increase employee participation and engagement in sustainability initiatives, grew significantly in FY17, adding 214 champion sites. Since implementing the programme, 574 sustainability champions volunteered to lead new sustainability initiatives and programmes, at 81 percent of the nearly 600 FedEx Ground facilities in the U.S. and Canada. Additionally, the FedEx Freight GREEN Site internal certification programme, which recognises facilities that complete certain actions to reduce environmental impacts, like recycling and conserving energy, saw the number of GREEN Sites more than double in FY17 compared to FY16, to extend GREEN Site Level 1 certification to all FedEx Freight locations.

How stakeholder engagement was made to identify material issues

To identify and prioritise material topics, FedEx engaged with external stakeholders through a survey and roundtable engagement session.

What actions were taken by FedEx to promote more efficient packaging?

In its 2018 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for promoting more efficient packaging:

Increasing recycled packaging

FedEx branded packaging – envelopes and corrugated boxes provided to customers and used to secure shipments in transit – makes up FedEx’s largest volume of material used. To minimise the potential for wasted packaging, FedEx works thoroughly to make sure packages are delivered free of any damage that could lead to a return and replacement. Most importantly, as the number of global shipments continues to grow, so does the volume of recycled packaging FedEx uses. In FY17, by working closely with suppliers, FedEx sourced approximately 3,300 more metric tons of recycled packaging than in FY16, focusing on increasing recycled content.

Implementing dimensional weight pricing

Engaging and supporting its customers in shipping packages more efficiently, is a key sustainability priority for FedEx. To achieve this goal, FedEx Express and FedEx Ground apply what is known as dimensional, or dim, weight pricing. This is a practice that sets the transportation price based on package volume – the amount of space a package occupies in relation to its actual weight – with dim weight calculated by using a package’s length, width and height. This approach enables FedEx to make the best use of space in its aircraft, vehicles and distribution centres, improves loading efficiency for planes, trucks
and vans, and reduces associated emissions. Additionally, dim weight pricing encourages customers to make packaging adjustments that maximise product density and reduce paper, corrugated board and filler materials, to support the sustainability of their operations.

Helping customers right-size their packaging

Optimising package size and design can reduce costs for FedEx’s customers, and minimise environmental impacts. Hence, FedEx Packaging Services offers custom engineering guidance and on-site support to commercial customers who seek to right-size their packaging. FedEx’s specialty engineers assess existing packaging and recommend more efficient designs, followed by laboratory performance testing to make sure the redesigned packaging meets customers’ needs with just the right amount of material. Customers submit a sample package including all the packaging materials and contents in the exact configuration they want to use, FedEx tests the package for strength, integrity and durability, and provides results in 4 to 5 business days. During FY17, the FedEx Packaging Lab carried out over 5,000 small parcel tests and 324 freight tests, and FedEx’s engineers completed almost 2,000 on-site customer consultations, providing 63 new designs to improve customer packaging, protect against product damage and offer dim weight savings.

Abstract

FedEx has set a goal to reduce aircraft emissions intensity 30 per cent from a 2005 baseline by 2020 and, also, obtain 30 per cent of jet fuel from alternative fuels by 2030. In order to increase aircraft efficiency FedEx took action to:

implement the FedEx Fuel Sense programme

upgrade and modernise aircraft

explore the use of alternative fuels and technologies

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2018 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as ethics, bribery and corruption, driver and workplace safety, business preparedness, resiliency and disaster response, data security and privacy. Among these, increasing aircraft efficiency stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

Customers

Industry groups

Investors

Nonprofits

Government agencies

Team members

How stakeholder engagement was made to identify material issues

To identify and prioritise material topics FedEx obtained feedback from stakeholders through a survey and roundtable engagement session.

What actions were taken by FedEx to increase aircraft efficiency?

In its 2018 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for increasing aircraft efficiency:

Implementing the FedEx Fuel Sense programme

The FedEx Fuel Sense programme enables FedEx to identify efficiencies across aviation operations by using the insights and ideas of front-line team members and experts, who contribute to a culture of fuel efficiency. Since the programme began in 2006, a total of 54 projects have been identified and 561 million gallons of jet fuel have been saved. In FY17 FedEx saved, through the Fuel Sense programmes, almost 88 million gallons of jet fuel and avoided almost 850,000 metric tons of CO2e emissions.

Upgrading and modernising aircraft

Through its aircraft modernisation programme, FedEx achieves significant reductions in energy use and emissions. By replacing older aircraft with newer models, such as the Boeing 767-300 Freighters, which are about 30% more fuel efficient than the MD10s they replaced, FedEx not only saved fuel and reduced emissions, but also improved operational flexibility and operating margins. In FY17, through the aircraft fleet modernisation programme, FedEx saved 89.3 million gallons of jet fuel and avoided over 860,000 metric tons of CO2e emissions – almost 26% more emissions compared to the previous fiscal year.

Exploring the use of alternative fuels and technologies

In FY15, FedEx entered into an agreement with Colorado-based Red Rock Biofuels, which will produce a minimum of 48 million gallons of alternative jet fuel over an eight-year period. Construction of the fuel refinery was planned to begin in July 2018, and the first delivery of commercially viable and available alternative fuels is expected in 2020. In addition, FedEx collaborated with Boeing to test over 35 technologies aboard a specially equipped FedEx-owned 777 Freighter, including technologies designed to reduce emissions and noise. In April 2018 this aircraft, the Boeing ecoDemonstrator, became the first aircraft to fly 100% on biofuel.

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2017 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as ethics, bribery & corruption, workplace safety, business preparedness, resiliency & disaster response, data security & privacy. Among these, improving vehicle efficiency stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

Stakeholder engagement in accordance with the GRI Standards

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) defines the Principle of Stakeholder Inclusiveness when identifying material issues (or a company’s most important impacts) as follows:

“The organization should identify its stakeholders, and explain how it has responded to their reasonable expectations.”

Stakeholders must be consulted in the process of identifying a company’s most important impacts and their reasonable expectations and interests must be taken into account. This is an important cornerstone for CSR / sustainability reporting done responsibly.

In its 2017 Global Citizenship Report FedEx reports that it took the following actions for improving vehicle efficiency:

Optimising truck routes

FedEx seeks to reduce overall mileage by optimising routes, matching vehicles to journey based on load volume and route length, and plotting the shortest routes. In addition, FedEx applies its logistics expertise to reduce “empty” miles, when trucks travel with less than optimal loading and uses efficient technologies such as automatic transmissions and low-rolling resistance tires. Moreover, in FY16, through the FedEx Express Reduce, Replace, Revolutionize strategy and intermodal rail shipping at FedEx Freight, FedEx saved over 43 million gallons of fuel, avoiding more than 444,000 metric tons CO2e.

Instilling good driving habits

FedEx helps drivers improve their efficiency by reducing idle time, controlling speed and using progressive shifting techniques. FedEx’s international Eco-drive education program offers both classroom and practical sessions teaching tips anyone can use to drive in an environmentally friendly way. The program also identifies routes for changing to intermodal rail, which is more fuel-efficient than roads, and opportunities to reduce “last-mile” deliveries by providing more customer pickup locations.

Upgrading vehicle fleet to more efficient models

When replacing any surface vehicle, FedEx upgrades to cleaner, more efficient models whenever possible. In FY16, FedEx added over 800 alternative-fuel/technology vehicles to its fleet. Additionally, in early FY17, FedEx installed a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station at the FedEx Freight Oklahoma City Service Center and purchased over 100 CNG tractors. FedEx is also exploring greater use of electric and fuel cell powered vehicles among other advanced technologies, together with alternative-fueled vehicles.

What are the material issues the company has identified?

In its 2016 Global Citizenship Report FedEx identified a range of material issues, such as ethics, bribery and corruption, surface vehicle fleet usage/aircraft fuel usage and associated GHG emissions, business preparedness, resiliency and disaster response, data security and privacy. Among these, promoting the safety of its more than 340,000 team members, in line with its Safety Above All philosophy, stands out as a key material issue for FedEx.

How stakeholder engagement was made to identify material issues

FedEx regularly engages with its extensive network of stakeholders, including customers, team members, shareowners, suppliers, governments, NGOs, nonprofits, multilateral agencies and communities. Understanding the issues and challenges that matter to them helps FedEx to refine its global citizenship strategy.

FedEx’s first materiality analysis in FY14 identified the issues and opportunities most important to its business. FedEx sought input from external and internal stakeholders through workshops, interviews and surveys. This valuable intelligence is helping to shape FedEx’s strategy, goals, targets and metrics. FedEx is now undertaking a broader external stakeholder mapping and engagement effort. It will provide deeper insights into relevant global citizenship topics as FedEx grows and sustainability mega-trends increasingly impact global business.

What actions were taken by FedEx to promote occupational safety?

In its 2016 Global Citizenship Report FedEx set the following targets for promoting occupational safety, based on the company’s approach to materiality – on taking action on what matters, where it matters:

Promoting safe and secure flight operations

FedEx Express operates the world’s premier intercontinental air express network and the largest dedicated all-cargo air fleet. From its rigorous operational safety audits to its comprehensive Aviation Safety Action Program, FedEx Express has long been an industry leader in safe and secure flight operations. FedEx Express added Enhanced Flight Vision Systems (EFVS) to hundreds of its aircraft, which greatly improve pilots’ ability to land in low visibility conditions and at night. Fire suppression systems developed and engineered by FedEx are installed on its Boeing 777F and MD-11 aircraft to reduce the risk of onboard fire while in flight and life-saving Automated External Defibrillators (AED) were installed through the entire trunk aircraft fleet, which includes more than 300 aircraft. Also, in close collaboration with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and other global regulatory agencies FedEx Express is improving and expanding its Safety Management System – or SMS –, the formal process to manage risk in its airline operation. The aim of SMS is to prevent accidents, errors and failures before they occur. This requires careful recording and monitoring of potentially adverse conditions. SMS establishes organizational accountability for safety starting at the top.

Promoting vehicle fleet safety

With more than 54,000 courier vans, container transport and ground service vehicles on the move around the world, FedEx Express logs more than 1.1 billion miles annually in service to its customers. FedEx Express fleet safety starts with applied technology in the form of speed control limiters on its transport vehicles, along with advanced collision mitigation systems which warn drivers and even apply the brakes if necessary to slow the vehicle. Enhanced stability and traction control systems and lane departure warning technology help keep FedEx Express vehicles on the right path, as do the in-cab data and voice communication capabilities. On the human side, FedEx Express’s nearly 40,000 U.S. package delivery couriers are oriented regularly in safe, slow-speed maneuvering when approaching and departing a customer’s location. Additionally, FedEx Freight introduced 39 Road Driver Advisors across the U.S. These specialists support service center managers and drivers by facilitating safety education, coordination and analysis.

Raising awareness about safety best practices

In FY15 FedEx Express hosted “Accident Prevention Week” across all 50 stations in Brazil. The event raised awareness about safety best practices through team meetings and educational poster distribution.

Redesigning team member safety courses to accommodate differences in learning styles

FedEx Express redesigned team member safety courses to accommodate the differences in learning styles between baby boomers and younger generations joining the workforce. For example, new-hire couriers were trained using iPads, enabling mobility during the training and catering to their technologically savvy learning style.

Installing additional video event data recorders

FedEx Ground installed additional video event data recorders to capture accident information at 33 hubs, resulting in a 65 percent annual decrease in yard accidents across these sites.

Working with external collaborators to ensure compliance with industry safety standards

FedEx works with a number of external collaborators to ensure its continued commitment and compliance with industry safety standards, such as the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance, the American Trucking Associations (ATA), the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Measuring and reporting on FedEx’s global safety record

Measuring and reporting on its global safety record enables FedEx to identify challenges and improve its performance. FedEx uses two key reporting metrics, Lost Time Injury Rate (LTIR) and Preventable Recordable Vehicle Accident Rate (per 1 million miles driven). LTIR covers nonfatal injuries or work-related illnesses that cause a team member to lose work time. The Preventable Recordable Vehicle Accident Rate measures accidents that resulted in preventable fatalities or injuries. In FY15, FedEx’s LTIR improved by 4 percent and the Preventable Recordable Vehicle Accident Rate improved by almost 6 percent.

Reducing lost-time injuries through the Safety Above All 2 initiative

Through its companywide Safety Above All 2 initiative FedEx continues to focus on the critical educational and management aspects of reducing lost-time injuries. Safety Above All 2 places particular emphasis on educating new hires, developing facility safety action plans and delivering safety education for team members at all levels.

Preventing workplace violence

Workplace violence is never tolerated and preventing incidents is a top safety priority and a continuous effort at FedEx, supported by prevention programs and rapid response procedures across the company. Every FedEx team member receives annual training designed to prevent violent incidents at FedEx’s hubs and other facilities. FedEx encourages team members to report both potential for violence and actual incidents using its 24-hour FedEx Alert Line service or by contacting management, Legal or Human Resources. All such reports are promptly investigated by FedEx’s Workplace Violence Response Team.
