COP26: Act now for our children, Queen urges climate summit
In a video message, the Queen urged world leaders at the COP26 climate summit to “achieve true statesmanship” so as to create a “safer, stabler future” for the planet. In a surprisingly personal message, the Queen said “statesmanship” means serving the future rather than short-term political rewards and urged world leaders to act “for our children and our children’s children”.

New Zealand strait crossed for first time by electric plane
Wellington, New Zealand: Gary Freedman, 49, made history by becoming the first person to fly across New Zealand’s Cook Strait in an electric plane. Freedman, founder of the company ElectricAir, said he was ecstatic when he landed, and the technology worked better than he’d hoped. “We still had 40% left in the battery,” he said. “We could have almost flown back again.”
World leaders seek ways to strengthen global supply chains
Rome, 31 October: U.S. President Joe Biden and 16 other world leaders discussed action to make global supply chains more resilient in the face of possible future health crises, climate change and even planned attacks. The leaders also stressed the need for security, principally in technology supply chains, and for fair and sustainable labour conditions.
