Hana Financial Group originally began as Korea Investment Finance in 1971, rebranded as Hana Bank in 1991, and evolved into a comprehensive financial group in 2005 through sustained growth. The Group oversees a diverse range of financial services centered around Hana Financial Holdings, including banking, securities, credit cards, capital, life insurance, and indemnity insurance. As of the end of March 2023, Hana Financial Group comprised 14 subsidiaries—including Hana Bank, Hana Securities, Hana Card, Hana Capital, Hana Life Insurance, and Hana Insurance—along with 32 sub-subsidiaries, one great-grand subsidiary, and a global network of 216 affiliates across 25 regions worldwide. The Group is committed to practicing finance that fosters mutual growth and shared happiness through voluntary communication and participation, guided by the Principles for Responsible Banking. Hana Financial Group considers customers, employees, partner companies, central and local governments, shareholders, investors, and local communities— that have direct and indirect impacts on its business activities —as key stakeholders. The Group actively incorporates feedback received through various communication channels, such as annual stakeholder surveys, into its business practices. It identifies material issues by surveying internal and external stakeholders and discloses these issues through its reports. In May 2023, Hana Financial Group served as the main sponsor of the UNEP FI PRB Asia-Pacific Roundtable, where CEO and Chairman Ham Young-ju delivered a keynote address to share the Group’s ESG vision.

In its 2024 PRB Reporting and Self-Assessment Template Hana Financial Group reports that it took the following actions to promote a culture of responsible banking among its employees:
In 2007, Hana Financial Group became a member of the UN Global Compact, a voluntary initiative that promotes corporate social responsibility by endorsing the Ten Principles covering human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. The Group commits to upholding these global principles and transparently reports its performance to the UNGC annually. Additionally, in May 2022, Hana Financial Group joined the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), a collaborative initiative of UN Women under the UN Global Compact. The WEPs’ seven principles are grounded in real business practices. By supporting the WEPs, Hana Financial Group seeks to further promote gender equality awareness and align with the broader values and objectives of the United Nations.
UN Principles for Responsible Banking: Accelerating a positive global transition for people and the planet
With over 300 signatory banks representing almost half of the global banking industry, the Principles for Responsible Banking are the world’s foremost sustainable banking framework. Through these Principles, the banking community takes action to align core strategies, decision-making, lending and investment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and international agreements such as the Paris Climate Agreement.
